New Lebanon, New York
Under Construction
An abandoned Waldorf school becomes a house, a residency, a workshop in New York’s Hudson Valley. Stripping the house to its original, the act of tearing away prompted a series of structural forensics. Questioning the role of restoration vs. preservation, the details of the new house navigate the old and the new, advocating for something more timeless while preserving select original elements foundational to the house. Rather than dividing the former classrooms to maximize traditional bedrooms, the layout uses hallways and excess space to house daybeds, instead adding desks and workspace to the bedrooms as autonomous rooms for residencies.
